Going for Gold

 

Special Olympians from KeighleyFive athletes and one coach from the Bradford district will be representing Team GB in the Special Olympic Games in Abu Dhabi this month.

The Special Olympic Games will take place in Abu Dhabi from Thursday, 14 March until Thursday, 21 March.

The 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games is a multi-sport event for athletes with intellectual disabilities in the tradition of the Special Olympics movement.

Keighley’s Deputy Mayor Peter Corkindale, Bradford Council Leader Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Executive Member for Healthy People and Places gave them a special send-off today from Keighley Civic Centre.

The successful athletes from Bradford District representing Team GB are:

 

Special Olympians from Keighley Neil Hartley - Basketball.

 Ella Curtis - Cycling

 James Reed-Griffiths – Equestrian Keighley

 T-Jay Wilson – Equestrian Keighley

 Mark Rhodes - Golf

Tim Curtis is a cycling coach who will be going with Team GB.

Special Olympians from KeighleyHilary White Chair of BDSL said “We are both delighted and proud to have 5 athletes and 1 coach from the Bradford district picked to represent team GB in this Year’s World Special Olympic Games, it goes to show that hard work, dedication and commitment pays off. We wish them lots of luck and want them all to go to Abu Dhabi and enjoy themselves and do their best."

 

 

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Healthy Places, said:  "We wish our Bradford athletes and coach lots of luck in the Special Olympic Games.  We are very proud of what they have achieved and they will be representing themselves and the Bradford district.”
